What can you expect from this job?

First, let’s clarify the job title. When we say chart abstraction, we refer to the collection of a patient’s medical information, which is subsequently entered into corresponding fields within an electronic database.

To qualify as an eFiler/chart abstractor, you need to have the following:

• A high school diploma or GED
• A computer and a strong internet connection
• A home-based workspace that complies with HIPAA standards 
• At least 2 years of experience as a chart abstractor
• Solid computer skills (especially when it comes to data entry)

In addition, you’ll need to pass a background check in order to become a qualified applicant for this temporary, part-time remote job. (By “temporary,” we mean that you get to do this job for a month, after which your tenure may be extended. There’s no secret formula for improving your chances when it comes to extension. Just work as hard as you can!)

Essentially, it is your responsibility to do chart abstractions with speed and accuracy. As clear evidence that you have performed your duties properly, you need to meet weekly productivity goals. Plus, you have the duty of documenting productivity statistics on a day-to-day basis.

How about compensation? The chart abstractor will get paid by the number of chart abstractions they complete (as opposed to the traditional hourly model). In other words, the pay here is output-based.
