Since the 1990s, the internet has been Tamara Littleton’s workplace. From 1993 to 1997, she worked as an electronic journals manager for British publishing house Chapman and Hall. After this stint, she went on to supervise web content for BBC Online.
These professional stops gave Littleton plenty of insight into the workings of the internet. Specifically, she came to understand how it could be harnessed for brand engagement.
As the 21st century unfolded, Littleton (who had decided to leave BBC) created a number of online ventures to help global clients establish a strong presence on the web. These ventures included Emoderation (an agency specializing in online moderation) and Polpeo (which focused on public relations).
Both of Littleton’s creations turned out to be smashing hits in their respective niches. In particular, Emoderation earned the trust of several brands that are household names. Inspired by this success, the agency decided to sprinkle some brand magic dust on itself. In 2017, it rebranded as The Social Element to reflect the massive scope of its services. (Plus, this new name brings to mind that Zuckerberg-centered film The Social Network, doesn’t it?)
